uMiNT (pronounce as 'MiKRO MiNT')
  1.0 [my] birthday edition ;-)
=================================

What is this?
-------------

It is my compilation of FreeMiNT kernel, XaAES, network setup for EtherNAT and
some tools as bonus. Everything is ready to use, i.e. nearly no need for any
configuration.

Why did you do it?
------------------

Today it has been for 1000th time when I needed to (re)install FreeMiNT kernel
somewhere and I really don't enjoy EasyMiNT's installation with all that huge
archives, unfriendly default options in configuration files etc... so I decided
to make some nice zip archive just for unpack&play usage.

Second reason was the lack of something like that in Atari waters. I know some
people who have bought EtherNATs and until today they were not able to use them
because they fear FreeMiNT installation, loss of data, they think XaAES is
unusable and hard to configure etc. This package should prove it is nothing
horrible.

How to use / install it?
------------------------

See file INSTALL.

What if something doesn't work?
-------------------------------

You can always drop me a mail but I think everything should be ok.

What about that tools?
----------------------

I included some nice tools in c:\tools to present (and test) usage of Internet
connection. Explicitely:

AtariICQ -- ICQ instant messaging client by GokMase
AtariIRC -- IRC client by Lonny Pursell, demo version!
Atari VNC -- VNC client by Lonny Pursell
HighWire -- web browser by HighWire developer team
HYPView -- *.HYP viewer by Philipp Donze & co
Litchi -- FTP client by Rajah Lone
QED -- text editor by Christian Felsch & co
zView -- graphics and PDF viewer by Zorro
zWeather -- online weather status tool by Zorro

Except this you can find in the c:\mint\toswin2 terminal emulator which can
start simple shell via "Start shell" menu command and in the c:\mint\bin some
tools like ping, ifconfig, ls etc for testing network connection for advanced
users.

Is it safe to make changes to MINT.CNF and XAAES.CNF ?
------------------------------------------------------

More or less, yes it is :) Critical thing is not to delete any imporant file
(nearly everything except *.xdx and *.xix files is essential in c:\mint) and to
leave at least 'GEM =' in MINT.CNF and 'shell =' in XAAES.CNF intact / correct.
But you don't have to fear anything, if something goes wrong, you can always
delete MINT folder and copy new one from this archive anytime.

Thanks
------

Thanks goes to Petr Stehlik, author of AFROS, he had show me it's possible to
make network setup even without 30 MB of RPM archives and special ext2
partitions. And of course thanks to Marc-Anthon Kehr for making EasyMiNT, it
makes "serious" installation much simpler!

Enjoy!
