                FB-Basic 48pts - Icons set for Tera Desktop
                -------------------------------------------
                        Version: 1.1 (distribution)

NOTICE:

- TERADESK 4.05 OR NEWER IS REQUIRED.

- NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE SINGLE TOS VERSION OF TERADESK (DESKTOS.PRG).

- NOT COMPATIBLE WITH ANY ATARI TOS VERSION (UP TO 4.0x) AND FIRETOS.

PLEASE CHECK CAREFULLY THE SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS BEFORE INSTALLING THIS SET
ON YOUR SYSTEM.

Introduction
------------
The FB-Basic icons set for Teradesk is focused at the FirBee computer and
the FireBee setup distribution, but can be used on any Atari platform
matching the minimum requirements (see the system requirements section).

The FB-Basic set is composed by 251 icons including devices, applications,
files and folders. All the icons have a 48*48 pts size, in 256, 16, and 2
colours.

Teradesk 4.05 (or newer), a modern AES (such as XaAES or MyAES) with
support for 48pts 256 colors icons and either the OS extension NVDI or the
NVDI palette are required to display properly this set of icons.

Be aware that Teradesk's versions up to 4.04 doesn't handle properly 48pts
icons and that FireTOS and TOS4 doesn't support 48pts icons. As Teradesk
draws its icons via the underlying OS, to avoid unpleasant crashes of your
system, make sure your AES supports 48pts/256 colors icons before starting
Teradesk with this set of icons.

If NVDI or the NVDI palette are not installed, the 256 colors icons will
show up in wrong colors and the 16 colors icons will look slightly darker.

Beta testers on the FalconCT60 platform reported this set compatible with
the OSs FreeMiNT/N.AES2, Magic 6.2 (not FireBee friendly) with either
Teradesk 4.05 or Jinnee 2.5 (not compatible with the FireBee computer).

System Requirements
-------------------
- The official distribution of the Teradesk 4.05 (or newer) desktop;
- A Multitasking OS, such as FreeMiNT/XaAES or FreeMiNT/MyAES, supporting
  48pts/256 colors icons and RSC files greater than 64Kb;
- 256 colors screen mode for 256 colors icons;
- the OS extension NVDI or the NVDI palette installed (required to display
  the 256 colors icons with the right colors).
- A powerful TOS compatible platform (FireBee, Falcon CT6x, Aranym,..).
- At least 16Mb of RAM. Anything less will likely cripple your computer.
  The cicons.rsc file alone is close to 1Mb (as comparison, the default
  cicons.rsc is only 64Kb).

Notice
------
For the desktop's operating instructions, please refer to the Teradesk
documents.

For freemint/xaaes or freemint/myaes OS please refer to the official
distributions documents and the FreeMiNT wiki.

Installation
------------

1) NVDI Palette

If the NVDI extension is installed, no action is required on the user side
and you can jump directly to section 2). If NVDI extension is installed
and you experience colors issues, a custom palette might be set via the
AES and you have to check the relevant settings. If NVDI is not available
you have to set the NVDI palette via the AES.

To set the color palette in the AES or to check your settings:

A) In XaAES:

  A nvdi.pal file should be available inside the xaaes/pal folder and the
  xaaes.cnf file should list the command:

  palette = nvdi

  If a palette is not found, copy the nvdi.pal file from a FreeMiNT
  distribution and edit the xaaes.cnf file accordingly. Reload the palette
  via the CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-P shortcut. After loading a new palette in XaAES,
  programs might have to restart to use it. This is the case, for istance,
  for Teradesk. Alternatively, restart XaAES (if supported), or perform a
  warm reboot of the system.

Note: XaAES offers various options to load color palettes or customize
their use:

Ctrl-Alt-Shift-P : allow to load any palette at runtime;
Ctrl-Alt-P : restore the palette in colour depth of 8-bits
 or less;
Cntr-Alt-J       : restart XaAES (if supported by the VDI);

In app options commands section in the XAAES.CNF file:

with remap_cicons=1, and  under app_options icn_pal_name=<palette>  should
allow to use any palette defined with palette=. If you have palette=gem,
and want to use in Teradesk the nvdi-icons, write:

app_options=desktop, icn_pal_name=nvdi. The remap is not 100% perfect yet.

The app options can be loaded at runtime with Ctrl-Alt-Shift-L.

B) in MyAES:
Check if inside the MYAES folder is available a MYAES.PAL palette file.
If this file is present, no action is required on the user side, apart
than setting the right screen resolution/depth in the MYAES.CNF file.
If no MYAES.PAL file is available in your system, you can find it in the
official distribution of MyAES (for istance, the MYAES096.ZIP archive).

Copy the palette file in the main MYAES folder and restart your system.

Be aware that the NVDI.PAL file from vthe FreeMiNT distribution is NOT
compatible with MyAES.

2) Icon set:
- Back up the files: icons.rsc, cicons.rsc and teradesk.inf located inside
  the main teradesk's folder. Rename or delete them.
- drag&drop the new files (icons.rsc,cicons.rsc and teradesk.inf) from the
  source to the destination folder.
- Restart you desktop to load the new icons a nd configuration and any
  palette change.

Notes:

- The teradesk.inf is already configured for 48 pnts icons and most of the
  icons are already assigned. The icons spacing can be further adjusted
  via the Horizontal and Vertical grid settings (currently set at 80/59 in
  my teradesk.inf) in the Window Options (desktop placement is also
  affected). Feel free to experiment: be aware that anything lower than
  H=72 or V=55 will overlap the icons. The second value (+/-) displaces
  from the upper and left edge the first row and the first column of the
  desk icons.

- If the colors of the icons look weird, verify that NVDI or the NVDI
  palette are properly installed/set (see the appropriate section of this
  readme).
