NE2000.txt (C) 1997, 1998 by T. Lang

News (07.Nov.1998): The version 2.0 of the driver will be out the
next days and now also supports the pci high level bios. This means
that it also works on the "Milan". Please note: On the Milan you need an
actual TOS and bootblock! Since the Neuss fair '98 there is also a version
available for the ISA adaptor "Panther II" from Roland Skuplik for ST-like
computers.

On the Atari clone "Hades" the VME boards like PAM's Net or Riebl
don't seem to work reliable. I've written a driver for NE2000 PCI
boards which transfers (depending on the CPU speed) up to over 900KB/s
(@10MHz LAN). NFS and Samba reach up to 700KB/s.

This driver is commercial software and therefore not included in this
package. It is available bundled with an NE2000 ethernet board and my
low level pci bios for the Hades. You need an actual serialized TOS
in your Hades and you definitely will need your Hades' machine ID for
ordering, so I include a little program in the tool folder
(mach_id.tos) which is now useable for Hades AND Milan!

Please note: I'm not distributing the driver myself, so please ask
your local dealer to order it.

I personally recommend NOT to use VME ethernet boards for the Hades.
